The founder and CEO of Response Ability, Inc., a sustainability consultancy based in Kyoto, Executive Director of Japan Business Initiative for Biodiversity (JBIB) and a board member of Japan Ethical Initiative (JEI).
He is a scientist by training, received BSc from The University of Tokyo, MSc and PhD from Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo.
After working for National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) and FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia) as a researcher, he started his career as a consultant on sustainability in 2002.
He has been involved in and led numbers of projects by leading Japanese corporations and ministries to develop sustainability policies and implement them in their daily operations. He also gives advice to business executives on sustainable business management and to produce sustainable business models.
He is a member of various governmental committees and an advisor to sustainability related societies and forums both in Japan and internationally.

Yuriko Iwasaki

Yuriko joined Unilever Japan as Head of Communications in 2023 attracted by its purpose to make sustainable living common place. She started her professional career in IKEA Japan in 2006, worked in several different roles in Property and Expansion, Marketing and Communications. In 2016, she took role of Country Communications Manager and seved for 7 years. She studied International Relations at University of Tsukuba. Mother of 11 years daughter and 9 years son.

After completing my Master’s in Environmental Studies, I started working in the corporate sustainability space. My 15+ years of experience include start-ups to large multinational companies in Japan, particularly in stakeholder communication using sustainability reports and employee engagement based on corporate purpose.
In 2020, I enrolled in PhD program at Monash University in Australia, where I have been researching the relationship between corporate purpose and corporate sustainability in large companies in Australia and Japan.
