Teiji Nakamura graduated from the University of Tokushima School of Medicine in 1972. He worked as a clinical dietitian at Shinjuku Clinic and St. Marianna University School of Medicine Hospital. He was a research student at the Tokyo University School of Medicine since 1978 and received a Ph.D. in 1985. The dissertation topic was “Characteristic of eating behavior in obese people and effectiveness of behavior modification therapy.”
In 2003, he became a professor at Kanagawa University of Human Services. After working as chairman and dean, he had been the president from 2011 to March 2023. Also, he is the president of the Japan Dietetic Association and president of the Japanese Association of Nutritional Science Education. He was chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 15th International Congress of Dietetics in 2008. In 2013, he became the chairman of a study group on “healthy diet,” which supports the longevity of Japanese people, by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare.
He has been directly involved in the latter half of Japan’s nearly 100-year history of nutrition policy. His efforts were highlighted in Prime Minister Kishida’s speech at the start of The Tokyo Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit 2021. He is widely known internationally as a leader in the practice of nutrition.
