Regional Revitalization Through a Marketing Lens
This session examines regional revitalization from a marketing perspective, focusing on how to identify, articulate, and scale the unique value of local communities.
The discussion brings together three speakers working from distinct vantage points : Mr. Orimo, who operates at the intersection of local identity and creativity ; Ms. Hasuike, a local government official driving community development through sustainable tourism; and Mr. Hirose, who is dedicated to revitalizing Japan’s food and agricultural sectors with an emphasis on sustainability.
Through their diverse experiences, the speakers will explore practical strategies and forward-looking insights for advancing regional revitalization in Japan.

In 2024, Shodoshima became the third island in Japan (and the first in western Japan) to receive the Silver Award in the Green Destinations Awards program, an international certification organization accredited by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).He also holds a Professional Certificate, a professional qualification.Furthermore, in 2025, Tonosho Town will be certified as a “Best Tourism Village” by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) as an excellent region that is working to preserve cultural heritage and promote sustainable development through tourism in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, and will work together with the local community to promote sustainable tourism.Through public-private collaboration and industry-academia-government collaboration, we are promoting sustainable urban development by connecting various fields using sustainable tourism as a hook to solve various regional issues.
